The San Diego - Yokohama Sister City Society Board of Directors feel strongly about participation in educational, social and cultural activities between the cities of San Diego, California, U.S.A. and Yokohama, Japan is necessary for the future of global peace and prosperity. In order to provide for the exchange of ideas and to provide a learning experience for its citizens, it intends to sponsor, manage and partially finance the San Diego - Yokohama Sister City Youth Exchange Program.

This program, for over 40 years, organized and managed by the Educational Committee of the San Diego - Yokohama Sister City Society, has been sending and receiving youths from both cities in alternating years in order to provide a unique benefit to the citizens of both San Diego and Yokohama.

Volunteers and staff members of human service and environmental agencies, ages 18 through 35, are invited to participate for the opportunity to exchange their experiences and knowledge with their professional and student peers from Japan.

On October 29, 2006, 12 youths delegates from the City of Yokohama will arrive in San Diego. They will spend about a week of job shadowing in local human service and environmental agencies, experience hospitality of home-stay hosts, and participate in workshops and symposium.
